About Homebaked Bakery
Homebaked Cooperative Bakery was established by a group of local residents in 2012. 197- 199 Oakfield Rd had been a bakery for over 100 years, but the last owners the Mitchell family closed it in 2010 due to the decline in the area and a lack of footfall resulting from Housing Market Renewal, plus the threat of a compulsory purchase order. The Biennial used the bakery as the base for its Two Up Two Down Arts commission and when local people decided they wanted to reopen the bakery, the Biennial supported the reopening in October 2013.
Six years on from then the bakery is a thriving business, running on social enterprise principles and powered by our key 3 objectives:
- To provide good quality jobs for local people
- To provide good quality affordable food for the community
- To provide training for the community
The bakery is now a hub for the community to eat, socialise and learn.
